ByTheMath · The data behind the rankings
Financial data that nobody paid to tilt.
ByTheMath builds the scoring engine behind the YourBest network — savings rates, credit cards, credit building, loan rates, health plans and taxes. Every product is scored from verifiable inputs, verified at the source and dated, rechecked on a rolling schedule, and logged with a timestamp when it moves. We run no affiliate links here, and no institution has ever paid to be included in or ranked higher in any ranking we publish. The same dataset is available to license.

What the dataset holds
Three product families, one scoring model, one verification pipeline. Counts below are live.
12,200+
Deposits & savings
High-yield savings, CDs, money market and reward checking, plus HSA providers and 529 plans. Scored on APY, fees, minimums and access, with credit-union eligibility decoded and early-withdrawal penalties parsed.
460+
Credit cards
Earn rates by spend category, annual-fee value, signup bonuses and transfer partners — plus what the points are actually worth. The hardest consumer-finance data to compile, verified at the source and dated.
7,500+
Loan rates
Mortgage, HELOC, personal, auto, student and business lending, scored on APR or effective APR, origination cost, funding speed and how hard each is to qualify for.
Why license from us
Neutrality you can audit, not a slogan.
Most card and rate data in circulation is quietly shaped by affiliate payouts. Ours is not — and because the scores are computed from published inputs, you can check that claim rather than take it.
Compensation-blind at the source
ByTheMath earns nothing from placements. Compensation is not an input to any score: any commissions a consumer site earns are downstream of the score and have no input into it.
Verified against the institution
Every rate is read from the provider’s own page, verified at the source and dated, and rechecked on a rolling schedule. No stale, scraped-and-forgotten feeds.
Structured for machines
Scored, typed and ready for a recommendation engine, a budgeting app, or an assistant answering “best card for X.”

How we operate
The operating principles
Every ranking, every score, every published rate follows the same rules — regardless of which institution it affects.
Math-based rankings
Every product gets a composite score calculated from verifiable data — APY, APR, fees, minimums, flexibility. No editorial override. No commercial adjustment.
Commissions never change rankings
Scoring is neutral. Sites in the network may show ads or earn commissions from some links; either way it never changes which products appear or how they rank — and the underlying data is licensable so you can verify it.
Continuous verification
An automated scanner flags candidate rate changes; a human confirms each one against the institution’s own page before it goes live, and every rate carries its verification date.
Full rate history
Every confirmed rate change is logged permanently with a timestamp. The historical record is public — you can see exactly when a rate moved and by how much.
Source-verified data
Every rate, fee and product detail is sourced from the institution’s own website with a URL on file. We don’t republish press releases or third-party feeds.
Plain language
No jargon-heavy copy written to sound authoritative. Scores are explained. Methodology is published. If something is unclear, that’s a bug we want to fix.
